Incorporating Social Value Through a Hedgehog Highway Installation
As part of our commitment to enhancing biodiversity and delivering lasting social value within our construction projects, we included the installation of a hedgehog highway in a recent development.
What is a Hedgehog Highway?
A hedgehog highway is a series of small openings (typically 13cm x 13cm) created at the base of garden fences or walls to allow hedgehogs to roam freely between green spaces. Hedgehogs can travel up to 2 miles a night in search of food, mates, and nesting sites, but urban barriers often fragment their habitat. These simple passages help connect habitats, contributing to the survival of a species that has seen serious decline in the UK.
