Our Commitment to Social Value

At Burren and Whitaker Construction, we are deeply committed to embedding social value into every aspect of our operations. We believe that construction is not just about building structures, but also about building stronger communities, supporting people, and leaving a lasting positive impact wherever we work.

Workforce development is a key part of our approach. We invest in the growth and development of our team by offering apprenticeships, work placements, and continuous training opportunities. We also collaborate with local education providers to inspire and support the next generation of construction professionals.

Community engagement is central to how we operate. We actively seek opportunities to give back to the communities we serve. For example, we recently completed a fencing project at Frimley Park Hospital, which was fully donated by Burren and Whitaker Construction. This contribution helped improve the safety and appearance of the hospital grounds at no cost to the NHS. Similarly, after completing several projects at Mount Vernon Hospital, we donated fully established timber planters to enhance the hospital’s outdoor spaces, creating a more welcoming and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

In our project delivery, we prioritise responsible practices that generate long-term value. We support local economies by working with regional suppliers and subcontractors, and we are committed to sustainable construction methods that reduce environmental impact. We also ensure that our projects are inclusive and accessible, reflecting the diverse needs of the communities we serve.

Looking ahead, we remain dedicated to expanding our social value initiatives. Whether through community support, sustainable practices, or workforce investment, Burren and Whitaker Construction strives to be a responsible and valued partner in every project we undertake.

Dear Burren and Whitaker,

On behalf of the entire team in G1, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of time, skills, and materials in building the beautiful new screen in our courtyard.

This area has long been in need of attention, especially after patient feedback highlighted how disheartening it was to sit through chemotherapy while looking out at a bare concrete wall.

Your expert craftsmanship has completely transformed the space.

The new screen not only improves the view but also provides a practical area to store garden tool, helping us make the most of the courtyard.

The freshly jet-washed flooring has truly brought the whole area to life, and we’ve already seen the positive effect it has had on both patients and staff alike.

We are deeply grateful for your commitment to social values and the support you’ve shown to the Trust.

Your contribution has made a meaningful difference, and we sincerely appreciate the positive impact you’ve had on our environment and those who use it.

With thanks and appreciation,
The G1 Team

Emma

Dear Burren and Whitaker,

On behalf of the Comforts Fund at Mount Vernon Hospital, we would like to extend our warmest thanks for your generous donation of the beautiful garden planters outside the Look-In Charity Shop.

Your kind gift has truly transformed the front of the shop into a welcoming and cheerful space for all who visit. The thoughtful selection of flowers and the care taken in their arrangement has not gone unnoticed, and we’ve received many compliments from patients, staff and volunteers alike.

We are also especially grateful for the time and effort you personally dedicated to cleaning the charity shop window. Your support has made a real difference, both in appearance and in spirit.

With sincere thanks,

The comforts Fund Team
